We had a great day on January 10, 2017 at Military Day.  The mission of the day was to demonstrate the importance of our military and the social, political, and economic impacts it has on Tampa and abroad.

The Tampa Connection class of 2016-17 started off this full-day program by learning about the Coast Guard at the USCG Air Station Clearwater. We had a briefing from the U.S. Coast Guard about their mission: to safeguarded our Nation’s maritime interests in the heartland, in the ports, at sea, and around the globe. Here the class toured the air station where they saw both an aircraft and Jayhawk.

Our next stop was McDill Airforce Base where the class had lunch with officers and a Centcom briefing on happenings locally and around the world. We then had a demonstration by the military dogs unit and had a briefing from the Maine Patrol unit.

After learning about Tampa’s military involvement in the local community we headed back to The Getaway in St. Petersburg where we had our social and ended our day. Here we also heard from a local non-profit to round out the day: The Homefront Foundation;   http://www.thehomefrontfoundation.org. We are all looking forward to the next program…Sport’s Day!
