A salute and thank you to all Veterans! On November 14th, 2017 our Tampa Connection class participated in this year’s Military Day Program. The mission of the day was to demonstrate the importance of our military and the social, political, and economic impact they have on Tampa and abroad.
The Tampa Connection class of 2017-18 kicked off this full-day program with a tour at MacDill Air Force Base where we got an up close and inside look at the KC-135 plane. Active pilots shared their experiences on what it’s like to work on a military aerial refueling aircraft. We then had the opportunity to have lunch with officers and hear a briefing about the day-to-day operations at the base.
Our next stop was a visit to the Coast Guard at the USGC Air Station in Clearwater. Our class was briefed from the U.S. Coast Guard about their mission; to safeguard our Nation’s maritime interests in the heartland, in the ports, at sea, and around the globe. This was followed with a behind the scenes tour of the USCG’s hangar where we got to sit in the MH-60 Jayhawk Helicopter, tour a HC-130 plane, and hear stories about rescue missions.
The day was capped off with a social hour at The Getaway in St. Petersburg, where our class members reminisced about the day and even shared in some friendly conversation with the USGC officers that tagged along. All and all this year was one of the best Military Day’s to date!
