Tampa Connection is now accepting applications from local nonprofit agencies for our 2018-19 Tampa Connection program!  Please read below and submit an application if your nonprofit agency is interested in submitting a project to be considered.

Since 1986, the Tampa Connection has prepared more than 2000 young professionals to become active volunteers and leaders in the Tampa Bay community while building lasting relationships with peers in varying industries.  The program, consisting of program learning days and execution of a project for a local nonprofit, encourages leadership development, community awareness and personal growth.

Each year, local nonprofits submit project proposals to the Tampa Connection Board of Directors for consideration. A limited number of agency projects are selected to be carried out by the Tampa Connection class members during the program year (August – May).  Project teams, consisting of approximately 12-15 members, are asked to take full responsibility for the planning and implementation of the projects selected, and work with the nonprofit throughout the process. We have included some examples of past projects for reference. The most successful projects had the following characteristics:

  • Tangible
  • Well defined by the agency
  • Goal oriented
  • Achievable within 6 months

Fundraising under any capacity for the nonprofit agency is not an acceptable project for the Tampa Connection class members.  Any applications with a fundraising component will not be considered.  Additionally, the nonprofit agency is responsible for funding seed money or supplies for the project.

Please note, our class members typically do not have the skills to create websites. Agencies looking for this type of project or any other technology type of project will be asked to have a technology employee available from the agency directly. Material and information can be gathered, but coding and creation will most likely be outside of the skillset of the class members.

If your organization would like to submit a project idea for consideration, please complete an application and return it to nonprofit@tampaconnection.org by May 14, 2018.  If you have questions regarding project ideas, please email nonprofit@tampaconnection.org.

All nonprofit project applications will be reviewed and discussed by the Tampa Connection Board on June 12, 2018.  All applicants will be notified whether they were selected as a finalist after the June 12th meeting. All project finalists will be asked to make a brief presentation to the board members on June 26, 2018 in the afternoon or early evening.  If chosen for the program, agencies are expected to attend our Purpose and Projects program on September 18, 2018 (Date subject to change) to explain your project and expectations to the Tampa Connection class members who will be working on your project. Agencies are also expected to attend monthly team meetings to ensure project is on track and meeting the needs of the agency.

No applications will be accepted after May 14, 2018.

We encourage you to be creative in identifying a meaningful project that would benefit your organization and utilize this resource to the fullest.
