Two program days down, a great year to go! The Tampa Connection Class of 2017-18 met at the new Bryan Glazer Family JCC for the Purpose & Projects program day.
The mission statement for the program was: To prepare class members for their non-profit project by educating them on the specific agency information and how each member can personally contribute to the success of their project.
The day began with Chair David Pearlman reviewing survey results from the Opening Retreat program. Board Member Amanda Edwards, the lead for this program, then provided an overview of the day and introduced each of the five agencies that Tampa Connection is supporting this year:
- Hillsborough Education Foundation working with our Blue Team
- Brandon Community Foundation working with our Green Team
- Straz Center working with our Red Team
- Hispanic Services Council working with our Purple Team
- MacDonald Training Center with our Orange Team
Each agency explained their mission and discussed their thoughts on the various projects we are assisting them with.
After this, the class was divided by teams into different areas of the JCC where they had a lengthy discussion with their agency representatives regarding the project. These were highly interactive sessions with our engaged team members asking questions and beginning to formulate ideas on next steps. At the conclusion of the breakout sessions, both our class members and agency representatives were excited to get things started.
After the breakout sessions, the teams took pictures with their agency representatives and participated in an icebreaker game to help facilitate new connections. The program ended with a lively social hour including hors d’oeuvres, drinks and a Tampa 101 program teaser. The Class of 2017-18 has a lot of enthusiasm and charisma and we are excited to see the projects that unfold for this year’s non-profit agencies!
